The Under 12s are a team in every sense of the word. We currently have @ 38 players in our squad, made up of mostly dual-playing hurlers and footballers. The majority of this group of lads & 2 ladies came together back in mini-leagues in 2013 and proudly donned the Naomh Barróg jersey for their first “official” matches on a memorable freezing cold, wet and windy April 25th 2015, against Raheny at Pairc Barróg. Most of the team are in school together locally, train together, play together and even compete online together so the bonds run strong and deep.
As coaches and mentors we have seen them grow, both physically and in personality, from little more than toddlers when they first came through the gates to the boisterous, feisty, dedicated and independent minded group that they are today with half the squad unbelievably having already moved on to secondary school – those years have flown by.
The challenge of course is to keep them together as they progress through the ranks to become the undoubted stars of the club we know they can be. 2020 has been a challenging year for us all on and mostly off the pitch however this group have shown great resilience, have stuck together with their friends, are training hard and are fitter and stronger than ever as we head towards the new challenge of Under 13s with 15 a side and full size pitches in 2021.
We will field an A & B squad in 2021 in both football and hurling as we have done in 2020 when we were able to have matches. We are always seeking new members of all abilities and who over the years have seamlessly been welcomed into the squad.
The future is bright for this group who will without doubt carry on the proud tradition of our great Club and will continue be a credit to their parents and guardians.
